DRAKENSBERG
SOUTH AFRICA 29.4667° S, 29.2667° E
The Drakensberg is the eastern portion of the Great Escarpment, which encloses the central Southern African plateau. The Great Escarpment reaches its greatest elevation – 2,000 to 3,482 meters within the border region of South Africa and Lesotho
You can follow my adventure on YouTube where we hike up to the peaks.
Once you get out of your 4 x 4 , you have an long hike up to the top going from 2400m to 3200M. An race I run every year runs from the lower escarpment 50km up to the peaks and back down.
One of the hardest parts is climbing up the vertical chain ladders for about 70 Meters. Really exciting but not if you are afraid of heights.
The diversity of the fauna and flora in the Drakensberg is absolutely amazing.
